Go-ahead for rammed earth house in Wiltshire

Planning has been granted for the 650m² rammed earth house, thought to be one of just 15 built using this method in the past 20 years. Designed to Passivhaus standards, the construction will be of a mixture of rammed earth walls and lightweight timber elements.
The country house, set on a former brickworks in the rural village of East Knoyle, uses clay and recycled material from the site to form unstabilised rammed earth walls, a centuries-old traditional building technique, and lightweight timber elements.
This ancient construction method is balanced with modern Passivhaus standards to create a low-energy, low embodied carbon house.
Working alongside Jonathan Tuckey Design, all structural design will be made by Webb Yates Engineers.
